Valentines Day

by paul-feesey @ 2007-02-14 - 21:46:04

I have just returned from the most mental few days ever. Becca and I went to London for valentines day to see the Lion King and it was a phenomenal experience.

We arrived on Tuesday afternoon at Charing Cross Tube station and check into our hotel, the Thistle Charing Cross. That in itself was awesome. It was a 4 star hotel and we managed to get a really good rate on it(God Bless the internet). We decided to have a look around the area and locate the theatre for the evening. It was only about 5-10mins walk away which was great. We then hopped onto the tube to Piccadily Circus where we ate at Planet Hollywood which for those who aren't in the know is full of memorabilia from tons of hollywood movies. Top rate stuff and I definetely recommend a visit.

The show itself was absolutely breathtaking. It's very hard to describe but I'll try. There were people with stilts on all fours and massive hats to be giraffes,at least three on stage and a full size elephant that came in up the aisle!!! It truly was a spectacle. There were people dressed as gazelles and rhinos and zebras with lots of masks and prosthetics. The stage itself was amazing too. It raised up slightly at tghe back and part of it circled round and rose up like a corkscrew to represent Pride Rock and other things. It jsut did so many things I would never have thought possible to be done on stage. When Mufasas face was revealed in the clouds there was an audible gasp from the audience as it was jsut so brilliantly done. I'm not sure I can say anymore as it would'nt do it justice!! If you only have £50 left and you need that to buy food, don't!Spend iton a ticket to the Lion King and die happy in the knowledge that you have experienced something very special.

The next day we both made good use of the all you can eat breakfast buffet at the hotel. As I said to Becca, this is where you make your moeny back. We decided to go for a trip round London after that which turned into the most packed day ever.We went to Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Westminster, Leicester and Trafalgar Square, St James' Park and ate at the Hard Rock cafe which I loved. I saw the guitars of John 5 and Zakk Wylde as well as loadsa other like Beatles instruments and those of Eric Clapton and the Who. We really packed it in that day and I have the photos to prove it.

All in all it was a fantastic few days which I can't really put into words but needless to say both me and Becca are gonna have some awesome memories!!
